The 7 words that changed my trajectory this year
“I’m not here to be anyone’s savior.”
I was having a dm convo with a coach, interested in one of her programs.
I was honest about what I needed, what I was looking for, and had shared about the last coach I hired…who was a complete let down.
That’s when she said those words.
Pure honesty - no ill intent.
But it felt harsh.
Because that’s what I was doing.
I hadn’t seen it, but I was 1000% Line 5’ing her (projecting onto her). Which is particular ouchie because as a Line 5, I know what that feels like.
And even though I know it’s a myth that there’s one, magical thing that will fix whatever needs fixing, I was acting like there was.
NGL, this realization was rough. BUT it was also so necessary. I needed the wakeup call, and I embraced it.
I started to see all the ways I was doing this - searching for magic - in my business. The more aware I became of the pattern, the more I would recognize when it popped up, and the more I was able to stop it in its tracks.
E.g. a cool astrology membership I was interested in. Before deciding to purchase, I asked myself:
Are you joining this because you think it’s going to be a magical fix?
If yes, can you change your expectations, and look at it as something fun; that you’re interested in; and it’s making your Line 1 happy?
If not, then it’s not something to join.
If yes, is it something you want to spend money on?
(Yes, my decision making looks like a decision tree sometimes lol)
So cool, why am I sharing this?
Because we are bombarded with messages every single day about what we NEED to make our businesses successful. Hell, even what face cream will make us look ten years younger, or how we’re doing our concealer wrong 🙄
And this isn’t me bashing on marketing. We need marketing (in some sort of way) in order for people to buy from us.
But we don’t always need what someone is selling.
Read that again.
Real life example: a mentor I like is offering some new branding services.
I’ve worked with her already, but damn if I’m not interested in the new stuff!
I also just invested in some new branding. So do I really need more? Or, can I acknowledge that I’m unconsciously questioning if HER branding will work better? I think you know the answer to this 😉
Pausing to ask yourself these questions can really help.
Especially, if things aren’t working for you right now.
And if you ever want help working through this, let me know 😍
