Why you need a social strategy
This morning I was doing my daily scroll of social, and I saw a post that made me stop. It was in a Facebook group, and someone was looking for people that are experts in content creation. What struck me is that while creating content calendars was listed, there was nothing in the post about strategy. It doesn’t matter if you’re posting on one platform or several, you NEED to have a strategy.
To be honest, strategy is a word I hate. Everyone has a different definition of what it means, and what a strategist delivers. But at its most basic, strategy is how you’re going to accomplish your business goals and objectives. It’s more than just a plan of attack, it’s why you have a specific plan of attack. Clear as mud?
Strategy is especially important in social media. You might be seeing dollar signs you don’t have when you read this, but having a social strategy will actually save you time, increase your engagement, and bring in more customers than if you have no strategy. I’ve talked to some people who believe that if they’re at least putting something out there, it’s “good enough.” I’m here to tell you, “good enough” is not enough. You can’t scale on good enough.
Not sold yet? Here are three things to know:
Social Media strategy does not need to cost thousands of dollars.
It shouldn’t take you weeks to have a strategy created, once you kick off with the strategist creating it
It should work for YOU. The strategy should be customized to your individual business needs. If the strategy isn’t something you can incorporate, it doesn’t do you any good.
To give you a baseline, I create social media strategies for my clients in approx. 1 week and for under $1000. This isn’t a sale pitch, it’s so you can use this as a comparison when researching other companies. I know when I was researching brand design and photography, it was helpful to see the range of costs people charged.
I know that social can be complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. Having a strategy will truly help you, and make your content stronger :)
